Pneumatic Directional Valves | Cematic
Cematic's pneumatic directional valves are the ideal solution for controlling the movement of cylinders, actuators, and machinery components in industrial automation systems. Thanks to their wide variety of configurations, they allow compressed air flow to be directed to different ports according to process requirements. Additionally, they are available in solenoid, manual button, and lever-operated versions to suit every type of installation.
We offer pneumatic directional valves in 3/2, 5/2, and 5/3-way configurations, with single and double solenoid options, Namur mounting, and Ex-Proof explosion-proof versions. Therefore, we provide a suitable solution for every pneumatic control requirement, regardless of operating conditions or the industrial environment. In short, they are the key component for automating and optimizing any industrial pneumatic system.
Types of pneumatic directional valves
Button Operated (3/2 and 5/2): They allow direct and simple manual control of air flow. They are also ideal for applications where occasional manual intervention is required without the need for an electrical signal. For this reason, they are frequently used in test benches and manual control systems.
Solenoid Operated (3/2 and 5/2): Pneumatic directional valves with solenoids allow automated electrical control of compressed air flow. Thanks to their fast and reliable response, they are the most widely used in production lines and industrial automation systems where cycle speed is critical.
Double Solenoid (5/2 and 5/3): They offer independent opening and closing control through two solenoids. Consequently, they maintain the valve position in the event of signal loss, making them ideal for safety applications and processes where the rest position is critical.
Namur Version: Namur pneumatic directional valves are designed for direct mounting on pneumatic actuators according to the international Namur standard. This eliminates the need for additional piping between the valve and the actuator, simplifying installation and reducing system response time.
Ex-Proof Version: Certified to operate in classified zones with a risk of explosion due to gases or combustible dust. Therefore, they are the safe option for the oil, petrochemical, and chemical industries in Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 21, and Zone 22, complying with the most demanding international safety standards.
Lever Operated (5/2 and 5/3): They allow manual control with stable valve positioning in each operating cycle. Thanks to their robust design, they are suitable for applications where frequent and reliable manual control is required without the need for additional electrical or pneumatic signals.
Available pneumatic directional valve configurations
3/2 Way: Three ports and two positions. Ideal for controlling single-acting cylinders and direct exhaust applications. Also available in normally closed (NC) and compact versions for installations with limited space. In particular, the compact version is preferred in automation systems with multiple valves on a manifold.
5/2 Way: Five ports and two positions. The most common configuration in the industry for controlling double-acting cylinders in automated production lines. Consequently, they offer greater flexibility in actuator movement control and are compatible with most standard pneumatic cylinders on the market.
5/3 Way: Five ports and three positions with blocked or open center. Therefore, they are suitable for applications that require an intermediate rest position, such as in precise positioning systems, presses, and assembly equipment where cylinder position control is critical.
Applications of pneumatic directional valves
Pneumatic directional valves are used in a wide variety of industries and processes. Below are their main applications.
Manufacturing and Automotive Industry: They control cylinders and actuators in assembly lines, welding, stamping, and material handling. In addition, their response speed and reliability make them the preferred component in high-volume production plants.
Food and Pharmaceutical Industry: They regulate air flow in filling, dosing, and packaging equipment in plants where hygiene and precision are priorities. Thanks to their compact design, they integrate easily into process machinery with limited space.
Oil and Petrochemical Industry: Ex-Proof versions control actuators in classified zones with a risk of explosion. Therefore, they meet the most demanding safety requirements in refineries, platforms, and gas processing plants.
General Automation Systems: They are integrated into robots, CNC machinery, presses, and pneumatic conveying systems to control the precise movement of cylinders. Consequently, they are an essential component in any industrial pneumatic automation system.
