Válvula higienica con actuador neumático acero inoxidable 316L

Collection: Hygienic and Sanitary Valves for the Food, Pharmaceutical, and Chemical Industries

Hygienic valves are the indispensable standard in processes where product contact demands maximum purity: food and beverage, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and high-purity chemical industries. Manufactured from 316L stainless steel with a mirror-polished internal surface (Ra ≤ 0.8 µm) and clamp or weldable connections, they are designed to eliminate dead spaces, withstand CIP cleaning and SIP sterilization cycles, and comply with international FDA, 3-A, EHEDG, and GMP standards. At Cematic, you will find the complete range of sanitary valves for every stage of your process.

Hygienic and Sanitary Valves for the Food, Pharmaceutical, and Chemical Industries

In processes where the final product comes into contact with the consumer or is used in critical health applications, the valve cannot be a generic component. Hygienic valves or sanitary valves are designed from their conception to ensure they do not generate, retain, or transfer biological, chemical, or particulate contamination to the process fluid. Cematic supplies a complete range of hygienic valves in Mexico: ball, butterfly, diaphragm, and seat valves, with clamp, weldable, or DIN connections, manual or automated with pneumatic or electric actuators.

What distinguishes a hygienic valve from a standard industrial valve?

The difference is not just in material — it's in a complete design philosophy:

  • No dead zones: The internal design eliminates cavities, angles, and crevices where fluid can stagnate and become a source of bacterial proliferation.
  • Mirror-polished internal surface: Ra ≤ 0.8 µm finish (typically Ra ≤ 0.4 µm in pharmaceutical applications), which prevents the adhesion of microorganisms and facilitates complete cleaning with each CIP cycle.
  • 316L material as standard: 316L stainless steel (low carbon) offers greater resistance to intergranular corrosion during welding and repetitive cleaning cycles with acidic and caustic solutions, compared to standard 304 or 316.
  • Elastomers approved for food contact: Gaskets and seats are manufactured from EPDM, silicone, or PTFE compliant with FDA 21 CFR, USP Class VI, and EU Regulation 1935/2004.
  • Tool-free removable connections: The clamp system (Tri-Clamp / DIN 32676) allows any component to be disassembled, inspected, and cleaned in seconds, without special tools or prolonged downtime.
  • CIP / SIP compatibility: They withstand repetitive clean-in-place (CIP) cycles with caustic soda, nitric acid, and disinfectants, as well as sterilize-in-place (SIP) with steam at 121–134 °C.

Standards and certifications your hygienic valve must meet

  • FDA 21 CFR: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration establishes which materials are suitable for contact with food and pharmaceuticals. The elastomers and polymers in our valves comply with chapters 177 and 182 of the CFR.
  • 3-A Sanitary Standards: North American standard focused on the hygienic design of equipment for dairy and food processing. It specifies surface roughness, minimum internal radii, and accepted materials.
  • EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group): The European equivalent reference to 3-A, widely applied in the food and pharmaceutical industries of Mexico and Latin America that export to Europe.
  • USP Class VI: Certification from the U.S. Pharmacopoeia that guarantees materials do not release harmful substances into the pharmaceutical product under real use conditions.
  • GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices): Good Manufacturing Practices, required by COFEPRIS in Mexico for pharmaceutical and food plants, demand that all components in contact with the product be traceable, documented, and of verifiable hygienic design.

Types of hygienic valves available

Hygienic Ball Valve

316L stainless steel body, mirror-polished ball, FDA PTFE or silicone seats, clamp or weldable connection. Two-piece body design with full drainage. Ideal for frequent opening and closing cycles in liquid product transfer lines. Available with pneumatic actuator for automation in automated CIP systems.

Hygienic Butterfly Valve

316L stainless steel wafer body with internal elastomeric lining of EPDM or silicone. Polished disc without retention zones. The highest flow and lowest pressure drop option for large diameter lines in beverage, dairy, and brewery plants. Compatible with single and double acting pneumatic actuators.

Sanitary Diaphragm Valve

The preferred choice in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The flexible diaphragm made of EPDM, silicone, or PTFE completely separates the operating mechanism from the process fluid, ensuring no contact between moving metallic parts and the product. No stem seals exposed to the fluid. Self-draining design with angled body for complete emptying. Suitable for aseptic and sterile processes.

Single / Double Seat Valve

Designed for diverting, mixing, or filling fluids in beverage, dairy, and cosmetic plants. The double seat version allows simultaneous flow of two different products through the same valve without risk of cross-contamination, thanks to the leak detection chamber between the two closing discs.

Applications by industry

Food and Beverage Industry

Milk and dairy products, juices and nectars, beers and fermented beverages, vegetable oils, sauces, syrups and concentrates, purified and process water. Hygienic valves ensure that no product residue is trapped between batches, protecting food safety and complying with NOM-251-SSA1 and FDA/USDA regulations for export.

Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Industry

Active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), injectable solutions, water for injection (WFI), purified water (PW), culture media, buffers, bioreactors, and fermentation systems. Validation requirements (IQ/OQ/PQ) and material traceability are covered with complete technical documentation upon request.

High Purity Chemical Industry

Cosmetic and personal care products, laboratory reagents, premium household and industrial cleaning products, and any chemical process where metallic or bacterial contamination of the product is unacceptable.

Available connections

  • Clamp (Tri-Clamp / ISO 2852): The most widely used standard. Quick disassembly without tools for inspection and cleaning.
  • Weldable (BW): For fully closed systems where the number of removable connections is minimized. Orbital welding or sanitary TIG.
  • DIN 11851: Sanitary threaded connection, common in European dairy and beverage industries.
  • SMS / RJT / IDF: Regional standards available upon request for export projects or imported equipment.
