Sanitary Clamp Ball Valve in 316L Stainless Steel — PTFE / TFM1600, ISO5211
Cematic's sanitary clamp ball valve is the standard fluid control component in sanitary industries that require full bore, tight shut-off, and quick disassembly. It is made of 316L or 304 stainless steel, offering superior corrosion resistance and long service life.
Additionally, its clamp-type connection allows for installation and disassembly without welding or threading, making maintenance and cleaning much simpler.
The ball mechanism operates with a 90° turn. Its full-bore design also ensures unrestricted flow without significant pressure drops. Consequently, it is the right choice for processes requiring quick opening and closing with minimal head loss.
It is also available with a manual lever, pneumatic actuator, or electric actuator, adapting to manual or fully automated processes.
Operating Principle — Sanitary Clamp Ball Valve
The ball rotates 90° between the fully open and fully closed positions. In the open position, the ball's bore aligns with the pipe, allowing fluid to flow without obstruction. In the closed position, however, the ball rotates 90° and completely blocks the fluid passage. This ensures a tight seal that does not depend on differential pressure to seal.
Its smooth interior also prevents residue accumulation between operating cycles. Consequently, it guarantees fluid purity and facilitates CIP cleaning without needing to disassemble the valve in each cycle.
Body Materials — SS316L or SS304
316L stainless steel contains molybdenum in its composition, offering greater corrosion resistance in chemical and chloride environments. It is also the preferred material in demanding pharmaceutical and food applications where SS304 may show pitting.
304 stainless steel, on the other hand, is versatile and resistant in moderate conditions. Its smooth surface facilitates cleaning and is therefore suitable for industrial and process applications where chemical aggressiveness is lower. Both options, finally, have an internal finish of Ra ≤ 0.8 µm, which is the surface standard in certified hygienic applications.
Seat Materials — PTFE or TFM1600
PTFE Teflon is chemically inert to most fluids. In addition, its low coefficient of friction improves valve performance, making it ideal for environments with aggressive or corrosive fluids.
TFM1600, however, has similar properties to PTFE but with significant improvements. Firstly, it offers greater mechanical and abrasion resistance. It also maintains stable properties at high service temperatures, making it the right choice for processes with frequent thermal cycles.

Operation Options
The sanitary clamp ball valve is available in three operating modes depending on the required level of automation. The manual lever is the standard option, requiring no electrical or pneumatic power to operate.
The pneumatic actuator, on the other hand, automates opening and closing using compressed air. The On-Off or modulating electric actuator is for processes where proportional position control is necessary.
This allows the valve to be integrated into control systems with PLCs. All options are also delivered assembled and tested, ready for installation.
Fluid Compatibility
This sanitary clamp ball valve is compatible with a wide range of fluids in the sanitary and industrial sectors. The main groups are described below:
- Purified Water and Water for Injection — SS316L does not release metal ions into the fluid; therefore, it is the standard material in high-purity pharmaceutical lines.
- Food Fluids — dairy, juices, beer, vegetable oils — SS316L and PTFE/TFM1600 seats meet food contact requirements; likewise, the Ra ≤ 0.8 µm finish prevents residue retention.
- CIP Agents — caustic soda, nitric acid, peracetic acid — PTFE and TFM1600 are inert to CIP cleaning agents; furthermore, SS316L resists typical concentrations without corrosion.
- Chemical and Corrosive Fluids — PTFE is inert to most acids, bases, and solvents; however, for extremely aggressive fluids, verify compatibility with Cematic's technical team.
- Hydrocarbons and Solvents — petrochemical industry — TFM1600 resists wear from hydrocarbons; in contrast, standard PTFE may deform in high-pressure and temperature cycles.
Applications of the Sanitary Clamp Ball Valve
Food and Beverage Industry
The sanitary clamp ball valve controls the flow of liquids in food and beverage production lines. Its full-bore design prevents residue accumulation, making it the preferred component in plants with food safety certification. Additionally, it resists the acids and alkalis of CIP cleaning agents, ensuring hygiene between production batches.
Pharmaceutical Industry
In processes where sterility is essential, SS316L also withstands aggressive cleaning agents without corrosion, thus guaranteeing product integrity in each production cycle. Additionally, the ISO5211 mounting allows for valve automation with pneumatic actuators for integration into pharmaceutical process control systems.
Chemical Industry
The PTFE or TFM1600 seat, therefore, resists a wide range of chemicals, acids, and bases. Consequently, it extends the valve's service life in aggressive environments where conventional elastomers would prematurely fail. Furthermore, the ball closure is hermetic from the first operation, which is critical in handling toxic or corrosive fluids.
Petrochemical Industry
This valve also withstands demanding operating conditions in refineries and process plants. The TFM1600, moreover, resists wear caused by hydrocarbons and solvents superior to standard PTFE. Therefore, it is the right choice in petrochemical applications with frequent opening and closing cycles at high pressure.
Industrial Processes and Manufacturing
In industrial piping systems, this valve regulates flow with mechanical resistance for continuous operation. Its performance is also reliable in continuous production cycles. Its ISO5211 mounting also facilitates automation with pneumatic or electric actuators without replacing the valve. Consequently, it is an investment that protects process continuity against changes in the plant's automation level.
In summary, Cematic's sanitary clamp ball valve combines hygiene, durability, and versatility. It is, therefore, the most reliable choice for sanitary and chemically demanding industrial processes.
