PVC Butterfly Valve — EPDM or Viton Seat, PVC Disc, ANSI 150 Flange, 2" to 8"
The PVC butterfly valve is the lightest, most economical, and most corrosion-resistant isolation solution for water systems, agricultural irrigation, swimming pools, aquaculture, and processes where metal is not the right option. Its PVC body and disc do not rust, do not accumulate mineral scale, do not contaminate water with metallic ions, and weigh a fraction of an equivalent cast iron butterfly valve. Available with two seat options to cover different fluids: EPDM for water, aqueous fluids, and general services, and Viton (FKM) for greater chemical resistance against chemicals, oils, and corrosive fluids at low concentrations.
Available in diameters from 2" to 8" with ANSI 150 flange and ISO 5211 mounting pad for automation with pneumatic or electric actuator.
Seat Selection by Fluid — EPDM or Viton
EPDM Seat — For Water, Irrigation, and General Services
The EPDM seat is the standard variant for most PVC butterfly valve applications. Compatible with potable water, process water, chlorinated water, and neutral or slightly aggressive aqueous fluids.
- ✅ Potable water and process water
- ✅ Seawater and dilute saline solutions
- ✅ Chlorinated water up to 5 ppm
- ✅ Wastewater and sewage
- ✅ Agricultural irrigation systems
- ✅ Swimming pools and water parks
- ✅ Fertilizers in aqueous solution
- ✅ HVAC — chilled water and hot water up to 50 °C
- ❌ Not compatible with oils, fuels, or organic solvents
- Temperature: 0 °C to 50 °C
Viton (FKM) Seat — For Chemicals, Oils, and Greater Resistance
The Viton seat extends the chemical compatibility of the PVC butterfly valve to fluids that would degrade EPDM — low-concentration chemicals, oils, fertilizers with pesticides, and mild corrosive fluids. Viton is the correct elastomer when EPDM is not sufficient but the temperature remains below 55 °C.
- ✅ Low-concentration and low-temperature chemicals
- ✅ Vegetable oils and light oils
- ✅ Fertilizers with agrochemicals and pesticides
- ✅ Swimming pools with aggressive chemical treatment
- ✅ Irrigation systems with water containing trace chemicals
- ✅ Mild corrosive fluids where EPDM is not sufficient
- ⚠️ Maximum temperature: 55 °C — slightly higher than EPDM
- ⚠️ Only for corrosive fluids at low temperature AND concentration — for more aggressive fluids, use an anti-corrosive butterfly valve with PTFE liner
- ❌ Not compatible with ketones, esters, or concentrated acids
Why PVC Instead of Iron in These Applications
- No chloride corrosion: PVC does not react with residual chlorine in potable water or dissolved salts in seawater — virtually indefinite service life in these applications
- No metallic contamination: The PVC body and disc do not release metallic ions into the water — suitable for process water where chemical quality is a priority Up to 10 times lighter: A 4" PVC butterfly valve weighs ~2 kg compared to 15–18 kg for the equivalent cast iron valve — an advantage in overhead installations, greenhouses, and light structures
- No calcareous scaling: The smooth interior surface of PVC does not promote the adhesion of calcium carbonate in hard water

The Most Important Limitation of PVC — Temperature
The maximum temperature of 50–55 °C is the most critical criterion when specifying the PVC butterfly valve. Above this limit, PVC loses mechanical rigidity, and the nominal working pressure is drastically reduced. For fluids above 60 °C, use an iron or SS316 butterfly valve. For steam: never use PVC.
Automation — Pneumatic and Electric from 2" to 8"
The integrated ISO 5211 mounting pad allows for the automation of the PVC butterfly valve with pneumatic or electric actuators in all diameters from 2" to 8":
- Single or double-acting pneumatic actuator (2" to 8"): Faster response speed and spring-return fail-safe. For automated irrigation systems, filling sequences, and process control with available air network.
- ON/OFF or modulating electric actuator (2" to 8"): 24 VDC, 110 VAC, or 220 VAC. First choice for agricultural irrigation without pneumatic infrastructure — direct power from irrigation controllers or solar panels. ½" NPT conduit entries.

Main Applications
- Agricultural irrigation: Sectioning of zones in drip, sprinkler, and center pivot irrigation systems. The 24 VDC electric actuator integrates directly with the most common irrigation controllers in Mexico.
- Swimming pools and water parks: Control of filtration, circulation, and chlorinated water treatment. PVC is the standard material in the swimming pool industry for distribution valves.
- Aquaculture and fish farming: Distribution of fresh and brackish water in culture ponds. PVC does not release metallic ions toxic to aquatic organisms.
- Water treatment plants: Control in the distribution stages of treated water with residual chlorine. The PVC butterfly valve resists chlorine better than cast iron.
- Chemical industry — very dilute solutions: With Viton seat for low-concentration and low-temperature fluids where PVC and Viton are sufficient.
- HVAC: Chilled water and hot water up to 50 °C in HVAC systems where the low weight of PVC is an advantage in overhead installations.
